Merkezi Klinika is one of Azerbaijan’s most distinguished medical institutions, holding a unique place in the country’s healthcare history with a legacy spanning more than half a century. Established in 1965, the clinic provided high-quality medical care for many years to government officials and prominent public figures, becoming widely known among the public as the "Lechkomissiya".

Between 1999 and 2001, at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the hospital underwent a comprehensive reconstruction. Rebuilt in accordance with international standards, it was renamed Merkezi Klinika. Since 2007, the clinic has operated under the Special Medical Service of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Today, it is entering a new stage of development under the leadership of Academician Jamil Aliyev, Head of the Special Medical Service, a world-renowned scientist, physician, and distinguished public figure.

Today, Merkezi Klinika provides advanced, comprehensive healthcare services through its hospital, outpatient clinics, and dental centers in Baku and Ganja. Many medical services and highly complex procedures that were once unavailable in Azerbaijan are now successfully performed at the clinic. These include advanced cardiac surgery, coronary angiography and angioplasty, organ transplantation (including heart, kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplantation), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and a broad range of highly complex surgical procedures.

In recent years, Merkezi Klinika achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing the first heart transplantation from a deceased donor in Azerbaijan and across the South Caucasus region, marking a significant achievement in the history of the country’s healthcare system.
